Spice Mobiles, an Indian telecommunications company, has recently released its first gaming handset for India, targeted at young consumers who need more than just a mobile phone.

Named Spice X-1, the handset comes with a mini-game controller, which should offer users a pretty cool gaming experience. Moreover, there are six pre-installed games (four of them being Java-made) so that you can start playing from the first moment you get the phone.

For Web surfing, the new X-1 relies on Opera Mini, which is widely recognized as the most popular mobile browsers in the world. Opera Mini will make sure users have the best-possible Web experience via their X-1.

The rest of the features packed by Spice into its new X-1 include: a 2.4 inch TFT display with 240 x 320 pixels and 262K colors, tri-band GSM connectivity (900 / 1800 / 1900 MHz) with GPRS, a 2 Megapixel camera with digital zoom and video recording, Music and Video players, 3D surround sound, Bluetooth 2.0 with A2DP, FM radio with recorder, speakerphone, polyphonic ringtones, SMS and MMS, email, Instant Messaging, Call Blacklist (letting you block the calls from any unwanted number), Phone as Modem, voice memo, alarms, world clock, calendar, currency & unit converter, To DO list and so on. The phone's internal memory is of only 23MB, but fortunately Spice has included a 512MB card in the package.

Spice X-1 weighs 109 grams and measures 112 x 50.5 x 15.3 millimeters. Its battery is a 1050 mAh which should be able to keep it functional for up to 3.5 hours in talk-time mode or up to 130 hours in stand-by mode.

The retail price of Spice's new gaming phone is a reasonable one: 8,899 INR - meaning about $212 or 140 Euros. The X-1 should be available in India as of now, in Spice's retail stores and other mobile shops.
