14 DAY TRIAL // Indian handset maker S Mobility has just announced the immediate availability of its long-awaited Stellar 509 mid-range Android smartphone in India.
The smartphone has been recently listed on S Mobility’s official website, but the Indian OEM did not offer any details on exactly when the smartphone will be available for purchase.
Well, it looks like the company considered the smartphone important enough to announce its availability and price tag during a dedicated launch event.
According to S Mobility, Spice Stellar 509 will be available in India exclusively via HomeShop18 retailer for only Rs 7,999 ($135 / €100) outright. The smartphone should go on sale beginning today, though it’s unclear whether or not the Indian online retailer already has the Stellar 509 in stock.
Specs-wise, Spice Stellar 509 is pretty decent, but when it comes to software it’s rather disappointing. The smartphone is equipped with 1.3GHz quad-core MediaTek processor, 1GB of RAM and 4GB of storage, which can be further expanded up to 32GB via microSD memory card.
Unfortunately, the Stellar 509 ships with Android 4.2 Jelly Bean operating system out of the box, which is a real downside considering there are other alternatives in the same price range that are powered by Android 4.4.2 KitKat platform.

Anyway, potential customers may also want to know Spice Stellar 509 also boasts an 8-megapixel rear-facing camera with autofocus, LED flash and video recording, as well as secondary 2-megapixel front-facing camera for video calls.
The smartphone also sports a 5-inch IPS LCD capacitive touchscreen display that supports FWVGA (854 x 480 pixels) resolution. Spice Stellar 509 comes with FM Radio with a recording feature that allows users to record their favorite songs while on the move.
It is also worth mentioning that the smartphone is powered by a 2000mAh battery, which should provide “a massive” standby time of up to 170 hours (2G / 3G). There’s no word on the amount of talk time the battery should provide users in one charge.
