Yazsoft, the company behind quite a few remarkable pieces of Mac software, has released a new version of its powerful download utility / manager for Mac OS X, Speed Download 5. Now at version 5.2.2, Speed Download adds enhanced YouTube integration, as well as a better integration with RapidShare. The Lite version of the app has also received a few under-the-hood changes, as well as optimizations for the upcoming version of Mac OS X, Snow Leopard.

Speed Download 5 is optimized for any Internet connection (dial-up or broadband), and can collect and organize all your downloads. Some of the noteworthy features in Speed Download 5 include a clean interface with various view modes, a re-engineered “universal” download engine optimized for maximum performance, a powerful database to manage all downloads, uploads, and file transfers, Mac iDisk integration and auto-resuming file transfers. A new, fully featured, built-in FTP client has been added in the first stable release of Speed Download 5. It uses encrypted file sharing between SD5 users.

Readers can download either the full or the trial version of Speed Download 5.2.2 using the first link below. Trial mode restrictions include a shareware reminder screen and limited simultaneous downloads. The Lite version of the software, currently at version 1.1.2 (second link), is also available for download below.

Speed Download requires any Internet connection and a Mac OS X-compatible Internet browser. The Universal Binary program is compatible with Intel and PowerPC processors. Mac OS X 10.4.11 (the latest available version of Tiger) is still supported. Touted as “the ultimate Mac OS X download manager,” Speed Download is available in its two forms via the links below.
