The images depict all sorts of colorful shapes and patterns

The world is an absolutely amazing place to be in and this statement doesn't change whether you have your feet firmly fixed on it or you’re looking at it from above.

As this series by photographer Klaus Leidorf will certainly prove, the Earth tends to look even more breathtaking when taking in the scenery from above the ground (as spotted at 500px).

While being in a Cessna 172 aircraft, Leidorf managed to capture a portfolio of mind-blowing images that look like they come from the walls of abstract art galleries.

The one that I find really spectacular depicts an isolated farm house with a field of yellow flowers or crops in its vicinity which looks like a splash of paint on the green background of the canvas. The image is absolutely breath-taking in its simplicity.

The photo series includes varied shots, including images of alpinists rock climbing in the snow, high-ways, crop circles (no aliens encountered while shooting these images, however) or a huge camping site.

So if you’re curious to see what the world looks like from above, take a look at the gallery below or visit the artist’s own website to see the whole series and learn some more insights into his work and how he managed to take aerial photography at a whole different level.
