Bury your enemies in the sand

2K Games offered the press a more in-depth look at Yager's latest entry in the Spec Ops franchise, a third-person shooter entitled Spec Ops: The Line. Set in the near future, the game takes place in a disaster-ridden Dubai. The player is tasked with extracting a seemingly in-distress colonel and his unit that stayed behind to help evacuate civilians.

Spec Ops: The Line is a cover-based third person shooter with a twist. Because of the massive sandstorms that have hit Dubai in the game's fiction, the battlefield is ever changing. One can trigger huge sand avalanches on their enemies and actively change how the combat area looks like. The title can behave like a squad-based tactical shooter or like a more approachable action game, according to the player's desires.

The story will have a mature theme, as the colonel who remained in Dubai, John Konrad, may not have the same noble intentions that he initially seemed to have. This will result in some hard choices to be made by the protagonist, Captain Martin Walker, and, subsequently, the player. Dubai's opulent but now abandoned buildings constitute a striking backdrop for the unfortunate events Walker will witness in his journey in the heart of darkness, according to the developers.

The Line will also feature a multiplayer component that is set to integrate with the story from the single-player portion of the game. Yager is promising that there will be many competitive and cooperative modes for players to enjoy. In addition to this, they will rank up as they fight online, unlocking customization options for the characters they can choose from two different factions. Spec Ops: The Line has not received a clear release date yet, being planned only for a tentative 2011 launch for the Xbox 360, the PlayStation 3 and the PC.
