A new photo trend is sweeping Japan, and it's threatening to put an end to “Duck Face” once and for all. The Japanese have debuted “Sparrow Face,” exemplified above.

Making this face requires that you open your eyes widely and also have your lips slightly apart. The puckered lips are reminiscent of its predecessor.

According to Kotaku, a literal translation for the fad is “Chirp Face,” as it mimics a bird chirping.

The meme was debuted in the press, by a popular teens magazine. It has started to catch on, prompting parodies, going viral on Twitter and being used in TV adverts.

Said publication mentioned that the face gives you that “goody-goody” and “cute” and girly look. Even so, men and boys are also using the sparrow expression in their shots.
