Junk-mail just keeps coming and coming

There have always been a lot of unwanted messages on the Internet, but not like today. Researchers have found out that close to 90% of the e-mails received on the Internet are spam. And I for one, agree - I just checked my mail this morning and I had 2 messages saying I won the lottery (I don't even play the lottery), 3 messages about some hoax medicine site, one message saying that my bank account is needed by some African prince to deposit $27 million and the list just keeps on going. Out of 14 new messages, only two were non-spam, and I think many of you people experience the same thing daily.

Don't panic though, it's not just your case, it's a world phenomenon, as security experts have stated for NetworkWorld. They have also said that there is close to 20% more spam today than it was yesterday. Percents just keep rising sky high, as hackers turn new computers into their toys.

Security software vendors are in over their heads, as no matter what they do, the hackers just seem to find a new way of spamming and sending their infected mails, avoiding Internet defense systems. At the beginning, spam messages were just normal text - that was easy to rout out, but then hackers came up with the idea of embedding text into images, but the security companies took this threat down as well. Now, they are using PDF files to spam, as nobody has thought of a way to defend themselves against this new way of spamming.

Security expert David Salbego said that one way of combating this new wave of spam would be monitoring the IP addresses that spam, as NetworkWorld informs us. This method is not very efficient though, since more and more computers join botnets and IPs that were once thought as safe to send spam, while generally, their owners aren't even aware of it.
