SEGA, the publisher, and The Creative Assembly, the developer, have announced that they will be launching a new expansion for Napoleon: Total War called The Peninsular Campaign, which will allow the gamer to take control of four factions as they take part in a fresh campaign focused on the fighting that went on in Spain and Portugal during the Napoleonic Wars. For the first time in the game, Spain is fully playable with a unique style focused on guerrilla engagements that wear down the enemy.

France and Great Britain will be playable in The Peninsular Campaign, with new units, objectives and a better focus on how they fought in Spain and Portugal, with Napoleon aiming to convert as many of the 32 fresh regions to their political views, while the British and Spanish forces work hard to incite the population and to liberate them.

There are five new units focused on guerrilla actions, meaning they can act outside their deployment zone, including: Tiradores, skirmish-oriented light infantry, Cazadores, skirmish cavalry, Lanceros, Husares and a different type of general.

The Creative Assembly is also introducing three fresh types of agents in The Peninsular Campaign. The Priest will work for Spain and Portugal and incite opposition to the French invaders leading to popular uprisings. The Provocateur will work for the British and French and will be effective at spaying and limiting research progress, while the Guerrillero will be available for Spain and have the ability to target one army and limit its movement for one turn, also causing attrition.

SEGA and The Creative Assembly are not stating exactly when the new content will be launched but players will be able to get in during the month of June only by using Steam, where it can now be preordered for the price of 9.99 dollars. The developer is also said to be preparing a full Total War game set to take the series back to basics.
