We all know that we are supposed to be having fun as 2008 turns into 2009. Lavish parties, outdoor concerts or intimate get togethers with friends should be the way to welcome the new year but sometimes we just need a bit of gaming in our lives.

If you think you're going to need something to play on New Year's Day, then look no further than Space War Commander, a real time strategy game set to be released by Dreamspike Studios, a newly created developer that intends to bring innovative and interesting titles to the market.

The game will be playable on the PC and has low system requirements so that anyone who is interested in sci fi or in real time strategy can quickly get playing. The idea of the game is to do away with base building, which occupies a disproportionate time in RTS games, and to offer a dynamic and interesting experience, while always delivering new challenges.

The universe of the game is made up of more than 30 galaxies, each with different layouts and with various strategies required to succeed. There are seven different races inhabiting these galaxies, each with traits that can make them more friendly or hostile to the player. Each of the races has needs and objectives and you will have to take them into account as you plot your strategy.

Cutting off enemy supply lines and hitting weak spots with hit and run strategies is one of the most important aspects of the game, while the player also has to recruit and manage a limited number of powerful ships that are very valuable.

The title is simple enough to allow for 15 minute long play sessions but complex enough to allow near infinite re-playablity. Get in on New Year's Eve and see what it's all about.
