Lucky folks over at BB can confirm that “the South Park guys have cooked up a killer iPhone application.” A short preview of South Park's unreleased iPhone app has been made public. Accompanying the sneak peek were none other than Matt Stone and the South Park digital team.

Matthew Richard Stone is an Academy Award-nominated and Emmy Award-winning American animator, screenwriter, director, producer, voice actor, musician and actor. He and Trey Parker are the creators of the highly popular animated television series, South Park. Not that anyone alive needed an update on this, but the job requires it. Now, for what you really have to know...

According to those who've seen the South Park app in action, “[it] functioned beautifully, with the ability to stream clips, grab wallpapers for your device, read news, and browse the complete episode index.” But... can it stream whole episodes? That's what really gets folks excited, isn't it? Judging from the screenshots provided, it could, and should.

Also adding to the features list is the ability to choose character likenesses as "contact images" for your iPhone. Basically, users will be able to assign a face to the phone book entry of their choice, BB says. “An incoming call from best friend displays Kyle or Cartman,” for example.

The news accompanies the new season of South Park, which recently debuted on Comedy Central, where the series has been distributed and aired since 1997. South Park is well-known for its pop-culture parody and scatological humor, while also for handling current events in a very satirical manner. The show is often credited with putting Comedy Central on the map, having won three Primetime Emmy Awards for Outstanding Animated Program, two for programming less than one hour, and one for programming more than one hour. Since its debut on August 13, 1997, the show has aired 175 episodes over 12 seasons.

A release date is yet to be confirmed for the South Park iPhone app. The application is going to be launched as a regular iTunes App Store item, meaning Apple will first have to give it the go-ahead, so let's hope for the best. Excited about South Park for iPhone?
