The National Intelligence Service (NIS), the chief intelligence agency of South Korea, finished an investigation which revealed that the email accounts of Korea University Graduate School of Information Security students were attacked by North Korean hackers.

According to The Chosunilbo, the inquiry revealed that the most likely the attack was launched since the scholars that graduate from the university are later employed by agencies such as NIS or the Defense Ministry.

"Analysis of the malware used to hack into the e-mail accounts confirmed that it is identical to malicious codes spread by North Korea," an NIS official revealed. "We have tentatively concluded that North Korean hackers were behind the attack and are tracking the source."

The students received emails that contained malicious attachments which once they were executed, started sending valuable information to their masters.
