Earlier this month, South Korea announced its intentions of spending 10 trillion won ($8.77 billion / €6.78 billion) through 2017 on cyber security. In addition, the country revealed its plans of training a total of 5,000 cyber security experts.

According to the Yonhap News Agency, on Thursday, officials announced that the government planned to triple the number of cyber security experts by the end of this year.

Last year, the government trained around 70 people. However, the Ministry of Security and Public Administration is determined to bring the number up to 200.

Individuals with six years of experience in software development and three years in diagnosis are considered eligible. However, the ministry notes that applicants will have to go through a testing and training process that will allow them to work as state-sponsored experts.

The decision to increase the number of IT security experts comes in light of the numerous cyberattacks launched against South Korea this year. As expected, officials have named North Korea as being responsible for the attacks.
