The South Fork fire has spread over 76,000 acres (30,700 hectares) and it has divided into three separate fires: West Fork, Windy Pass and Papoose.

The West Fork and Windy Pass fires were provoked by lightning, with the first starting on June 5 and the latter on June 13.

As I have previously reported, at least 400 inhabitants of South Fork have been evacuated, as the small town was being surrounded by flames.

Officials have informed that the blaze has not hit the town as of yet. No houses have been burned, and firefighters have managed to keep the flames 4 to 5 miles (6.5 – 8 meters) away from the town.

Chieftain reports that the Wolf Creek Pass section of Highway 160 and the area on Highway 149 located between South Fork and Creede have been closed off.
