The official website of the Civilian Secretariat for Police of South Africa (policesecretariat.gov.za) has been defaced by a hacktivist collective calling itself Moroccan Ghosts.

City Press reports that the group hasn’t revealed the reasons for which the site of the police has been targeted, the only element posted on the affected domain being a logo of Moroccan Ghosts.

According to the same sources, the crew has previously attacked government-owned websites in countries such as Egypt, Morocco, Spain and Israel. This shows that they’re one of those hacktivist collectives that don’t focus their operations on specific countries.

A story posted on UltimePress.com reveals that the hackers are responsible for attacking a large number of websites, including ones from South Africa, Zambia, and Gambia.

“Long Live The Moroccan Sahara, Long Long live Morocco and live The King,” read a message posted by the hackers.

In some cases, the hacktivists have accused Algeria and the country’s government of supporting the Polisario Front, a rebel organization that fights for the independence of Western Sahara.
