Yoda and Darth Vader must be proud

For the first time in five years, a Soul Calibur title managed to grab the top spot in an All Formats Chart released by ELSPA. Namco Bandai's game Soul Calibur IV marked its debut in the United Kingdom as the best selling title of the week, with the Xbox 360 accounting for 56% of the sales. It seems that people were not that upset, after all, with the introduction of Star Wars characters into the game...

Wii Fit dropped to second place in last week's charts (despite a 35% increase in sales) and Mario Kart Wii kept its third place (in spite of a 25% increase in sales). The rest of the top ten titles of the week are: Wall-E, Big Beach Sports, Guitar Hero: On Tour, Wii Play, Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Games, Brain Training and Lego Indiana Jones. However, the biggest surprise remains Soul Calibur's position as best selling title.

Namco's game is the latest in the series of fighting titles, delivering new gameplay modes, characters and a bunch of enhanced features along with state-of-the-art 3D modeling and animation. The game also boasts pretty amazing character customization, with endless possibilities. To top it all, the online battle mode should prove once more that next-gen fighting games clearly lacked this addition. Oh yes, we should not forget the Star Wars characters that can be met while playing! Probably they had an impact on sales figures, too.

Because, yes, Soul Calibur IV is... a Star Wars title! Or, at least, it slowly turns into one, since no less than three characters from the Star Wars universe are present in the game: Darth Vader's "Secret Apprentice" on both platforms, while Yoda and Darth Vader himself are playable characters on specific consoles (the first on Xbox 360s and the second on PS3s).
