In some cases, a file needed to perform updates has been deleted

A buggy update caused Sophos antivirus products to appoint harmless files as being malicious. The company rushed to instruct customers how to address the issue and released a new update to fix the problem.

On September 19, many Sophos customers started reporting that their faithful antivirus kept popping up warnings about files infected with Shh/Updater-B.

The main issue was that some of the software’s own components were flagged as malicious and deleted in situations in which users configured their products to “delete or move” malware instead of “denying access” to it.

Those who still haven’t managed to address this issue after following the detailed instructions provided by the company are advised to visit Sophos’ product support forum.

As our readers may remember, this is not the first time when an antivirus company releases a buggy update. In fact, it happened to McAfee around one month ago.
