Sony was 'highly irresponsible' to feature the Manchester Cathedral in a violent game

Every month or so, violent games are bound to get some criticism whether it's Jack Thompson (game hating attourney), psychologists or? the church. Yeah, the church and it's not the first time it happened and it's a serious as it gets. The Church of England is threatening Sony to take legal action against on of the PS3's few titles: Resistance: Fall of Man.

"The Church of England is considering legal action against entertainment firm Sony for featuring Manchester Cathedral in a violent computer game," BBC news reports. "Sony Playstation's 'Resistance: Fall of Man' uses the interior of the cathedral's nave without permission."

The site also informs that The Church said Sony didn't ask for their permission to use the cathedral for the shooting scenes, demanding the code's removal, but the game's from shop shelves. The Church of England advises that if these terms are not met, legal action will be in order. I don't remember David Jaffe asking the Greeks to use the Colossus for their action game. How about Hitman 2? It begins with an Italian monastery and ends with the same setting. I could go on forever.

Also, the Bishop of Manchester, the Right Reverend Nigel McCulloch, reckons that Sony was "highly irresponsible," to implement the Church in a violent game for the PS3, given that Manchester has a well known history of gun crime: "It is well know that Manchester has a gun crime problem ... We are shocked to see a place of learning, prayer and heritage being presented to the youth market as a location where guns can be fired."

He added that "for a global manufacturer to re-create one of our great cathedrals with photo-realistic quality and then encourage people to have guns battles in the building is beyond belief and highly irresponsible."

Resistance: Fall of Man is a first-person shooter, following an alternate history where the world did not experience the rise of Communism in Russia, the Great depression, or World War II. Yes, one could say that it's violent, featuring gunned battle and all that. Say they don't feature a cathedral in the next installment. How exactly does this change things? Humanity isn't yet retarded you know.
