Sony is set to make its Xperia S flagship device available for purchase in a wider range of markets in the near future, including Australia and India in early April, the latest reports on the matter suggest.

Nothing has been officially confirmed for the time being, but wireless carriers in Australia have already confirmed plans to add the new device to their offerings.

Among them, we can count Vodafone, which is expected to launch the new device on April 11th (Crazy Johns will also have it available on that day).

Moreover, the new mobile phone will make an appearance on shelves in Australia through Optus in the near future, yet an official release date was not provided as of yet.

However, the guys over at XperiaBlog.net report that Harvey Norman, JB Hi-Fi, Dick Smith Electronics, Allphones and Telechoice will add the new device to their offering as SIM-free and unlocked.

The Sony Xperia S will be available at Harvey Norman with a price tag of A$599 attached to it. Moreover, it will be available through Sony Centres for A$579, and via Dick Smith at only A$555 (it will be put up for grabs here on April 18th).

For the time being, no specific info on when the handset will be released on the market in India has emerged, but the phone’s availability in the country was already confirmed.

Apparently, Sony Mobile India has been sending emails to its users to deliver some details on the matter, but without disclosing a specific launch date.

“In response to your query we would like to inform you that Sony Xperia S handset is not yet launched in *India*,” the company reportedly stated.

“We are unable to provide the exact date of release or availability and price information for this phone and we have only tentative date of launching Xperia S which is 10 April 2012.”
