We all know that Sony is capable of delivering both DSLRs with its Alpha series, and high-performance, yet stylish portable computer systems with its Vaio lineup. However, it looks like the company has decided to combine the experience it has accumulated with the development of both these products and release a new Vaio, specifically designed for those DSLR enthusiasts that require a high-end computer system, specifically tailored to provide an adequate image processing performance.

If you are wondering what to expect from Sony's latest Vaio, then we should tell you that it's basically a high-end 18.4-inch laptop equipped with an impressive LED backlit display capable of outputting a maximum resolution of 1920 by 1080. Now, given the laptop's physical dimensions, it's easy to notice that Vaio has decided to give up on some of the system's portability features, in order to create a high-performance rig.

A number of technical details and photos of the new Vaio laptop have already surfaced on the Internet. Judging by all of them, it seems that, once available, the new Vaio will be shipped with an Intel Core 2 Duo T9400 processor, running at 2.53GHz. It will also feature 4GB of memory and a maximum storage space of 500GB on two 250GB hard disks. There's even an additional eSATA port for more storage, if needed. The laptop's impressive 18.4-inch display is powered by an NVIDIA GeForce 9600M GT graphics chip, capable of delivering the required HD experience.

As far as connectivity goes, the upcoming Vaio type A is equipped with a Firewire jack for the user's camcorder, only three USB 2.0 ports, HDMI-out and even a UDMA-enabled CF card slot. In addition, the laptop comes with 802.11n WiFi connectivity and a Blu-ray burner.

Now, if you have already been blown away by what this laptop has to offer, there are a few more details we should mention, namely, that it weighs approximately 3.9kg, while the battery will only be good for 2 hours of working time. For a price of $3,000, this new Vaio will hit stores in Japan later this month.
