Playing multiplayer games on the same display (but divided by that nasty half-line) is not exactly anyone's cup of tea, but luckily, it seems that Sony's developed a new technology that will make such gaming woes a thing of the past.

So, according to a report by Slashgear, it seems that the Japanese company's engineers have manage to come across a a solution that will enable gamers to vie different images on the same screen, as long as they're standing in different locations around the room.

The new technology, that's been recently showcased during a London event, allows gamers to see just their side of the game, but only if they're located at a certain specific angle with respect to the TV display.

Of course, they can also both sides when standing right in the middle, but it seems that this experience is far from being a pleasurable one, eye-witness reports indicate, the amount of information one's eyes are assaulted by being a bit too much to process.

The technology is apparently related directly to the PS3's capabilities and not directly dependent on the display being used, which sort of makes sense, given the fact that, after all, the gaming console from Sony is used with TV sets pertaining to just about every single HDTV manufacturer out there.

Naturally, it will take a while before such a technology will be officially implemented within the PS3 gaming console, but given the fact that it's already working on a game that's already available on the market gives us some pretty high hopes for the future.

In fact, we're eagerly looking forward to seeing such a feature becoming a standard for the PS3 (or its successors), since it will not only help playing games in multiplay mode on the same display become a much more pleasurable activity, but also boost the console's popularity.

And who knowns, maybe we could dream of a 4-way viewing system at some point on the future, for games supporting that many players on a single display?
