In 2004, Samsung and Sony decided to invest in a facility for LCD type displays for large dimension TV sets.

The investments made by the two companies in this facility amounted to $2 billion. It seems that their effort paid off, and now Samsung and Sony are thinking to increase the production capacity.

S-LCD started to produce large size LCDs in this year's April.

Meanwhile, Samsung and Sony have found out that the demand for 40 and 46 inch display is on the rise and now, they would like to push the production to 30,000 units a month.

Sony is trying to improve the TV division, which hasn't recorded amazing profits lately; as part of the attempt, the company migrated towards LCD TVs, but before having the S-LCD factory, it had to acquire the displays from other companies.

Once the new factory was put into commission, Sony has succeeded to cut the production costs. Both Samsung's and Sony's officials admitted they have discussed about the expanding of the S-LCD company, which could be finalized sometime this year.
