The waterproof smartphone enables users to take photos even underwater

Mobile phone users in India can now purchase a new highly appealing smartphone from Japanese mobile phone maker Sony, namely the Xperia ZR, which landed on shelves in the country with a price tag of Rs. 29,990 ($520 / €390) attached to it.

Made available in three different color flavors, namely Black, White, and Pink, the mobile phone can be found on the websites of online retailers such as Flipkart, Infibeam, and Saholic.

The handset was made available for pre-order in the country last week, after being made official back in May, as fonearena notes.

Those who choose to purchase the mobile phone will enjoy a 4.55-inch HD (1280×720 pixels) touchscreen, a Reality display with mobile Bravia Engine 2, as well as a 1.5GHz quad-core Qualcomm APQ 8064 processor with Adreno 320 GPU.

Furthermore, the new device arrives on the market with 2GB of RAM packed inside, as well as with 8GB of internal memory, and with a microSD memory card slot with support for up to 32GB of additional storage space.

The specs list of Sony Xperia ZR also includes a 13-megapixel rear photo snapper, with LED Flash, Exmor RS sensor for HDR images and video, as well as a VGA front camera for making video calls while on the go.

At the same time, the mobile phone comes with 3G HSPA+, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.0, DLNA, GPS, and NFC connectivity, as well as with a 3.5mm audio jack, FM Radio, and a 2300 mAh battery inside, capable of offering up to 13 hours of talk time.

Sony Xperia ZR runs under Google’s Android 4.1 Jelly Bean operating system, with Sony’s own user interface loaded on top.

The handset also packs IP55 and IP58 certification, which means that it can withstand both dust and water. In fact, Sony has deigned it so as to provide users with the possibility to take photos even when underwater.
