Japanese mobile phone maker Sony Mobile has been long rumored to plan on launching a new flagship Android-based handset as soon as the next month, in the form of Xperia Z3, and it seems that the company has already started receiving certification for it on various markets.

To be more precise, the Sony Xperia Z3 appears to have received approvals in Russia alongside a variety of other Sony devices, including one that might prove to be the smaller Xperia Z3 Compact.

According to a recent post on mobiltelefon.ru, the Xperia Z3 has received certification in the country with model numbers D6633 and D6603 attached to it (yet no specific info on the different between them has been provided).

Moreover, Sony is said to have received certification for a new handset featuring model number D5803, which is believed to be the aforementioned Xperia Z3 Compact.

However, these were not the only new devices from Sony to have received certification in Russia, as phones featuring model numbers D2403, D2212, and D2203 have also been spotted there.

Apparently, the Sony D2403 could be none other than the recently spotted Xperia M2 Aqua, which is expected to arrive on shelves as a waterproof flavor of the Xperia M2.

No specific info on what the D2212 and D2203 might be all about has been provided as of now, but chances are that they will arrive on shelves as the variants of the same budget handset.

As mentioned above, the most interesting Sony devices to have received certification in Russia are the Xperia Z3 and Xperia Z3 Compact.

For those out of the loop, we should note that the two handsets are expected to arrive on shelves with roughly the same hardware specs, though the Xperia Z3 Compact will feature a much smaller display.

To be more precise, the Xperia Z3 is expected to hit shelves with a 5.2-inch touchscreen, while the Xperia Z3 Compact is said to sport only a 4.6-inch screen.

The two should arrive on shelves with a 2.5GHz quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 801 processor, as well as with 3GB of RAM and 16GB of internal memory, most probably paired with a microSD memory card slot for expansion purposes.

Rumor has it that both of them will sport a 20.7-megapixel camera on the back, paired with a 2.1MP front camera for making video calls. They should run under the Android 4.4.4 KitKat operating system right out of the box.

Previously, Sony revealed plans to release a new flagship handset this fall, which suggests that Xperia Z3 will indeed be announced soon, supposedly on September 3 at IFA in Berlin. However, no confirmation on the phone’s specs has been provided.
