The smartphone should appear at FCC soon as Sony Sirius Viv (D6503)

Sony confirmed a long time ago that it would not focus on the United States smartphone market anymore, which means that carriers in the country will rarely get to add a new Xperia device to their portfolios.

Authorized retailers across the US would sell Sony Xperia smartphones at prohibitive prices and they would not always be compatible with all networks in the country.

The good news is that, from time to time, after most countries had already received Sony’s flagship smartphone, that device might eventually make it to the United States.

The current flagship smartphone, Sony Xperia Z2, will remain the most advanced Android phone launched by the Japanese company until IFA 2014 trade fair, where the handset maker is expected to announce a new top tier smartphone.

Until then though, Verizon customers may be in for a nice surprise. According to @evleaks, the Big Red is likely to launch a specially tailored Xperia Z2 sometime in the middle of Q3 2014.

This means that Sony Xperia Z2 may land at Verizon Wireless as early as August/September. The information revealed by @evleaks also contains the codename of the device, which is expected to appear at FCC (Federal Communications Commission) as Sony D6503.

The smartphone is internally known as Sony Sirius Viv and, unlike other versions of the Xperia Z2, it will come with LTE-Advanced.

Basically, this means that Verizon customers who go for the Xperia Z2 will be able to take advantage of blazing fast download speeds of up to 150Mbps.

Verizon’s Xperia Z2 with LTE-Advanced should be spotted very soon at the regulatory commission and will probably leak in various benchmarking apps like AnTuTu.

But before deciding if it’s really worth waiting for the Xperia Z2, let’s see what it has to offer. First of all, the smartphone ships with Android 4.4.2 KitKat operating system out of the box.

It also comes equipped with a powerful 2.3GHz quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 801 processor, an Adreno 330 graphics processing unit and 3GB of RAM.

Another major selling point would be the stunning 5.2-inch IPS LCD capacitive touchscreen display that supports full HD (1080p) resolution and features Sony’s TRILUMINOUS and X-reality Engine technologies.

The phone is IP58 certified and boasts an amazing 20.7-megapixel rear-facing camera that features autofocus, LED flash and 4K video recording. The Xperia Z2 also comes with a secondary 2.2-megapixel front-facing camera and a high capacity 3200 mAh battery.
