Last month at MWC 2014 in Barcelona, Sony rolled out its newest flagship model, the Xperia Z2 tablet. Sony showed it was faithful to tradition, as exactly a year ago, it had launched the slate’s predecessor, the Xperia Tablet Z, during the same event.

Since then, the new tablet has appeared for pre-order in Europe, and for those of you in the US who can’t wait to take one of these babies into your hands, we have very good news.

The Sony Xperia Z2 tablet has been spotted going through the holy portal of approval, that’s the FCC, so we can tell you the product is not far away from reaching US retail shelves.

The tablet goes by the model number SGP521 in the official documents that reveal we’re going to see both Wi-Fi only version and LTE make it to American shores.

Strangely enough, even if the Sony Xperia Z2 boasts a cellular radio capable of functioning on any given frequency, the FCC tests have been carried on a particular band, the LTE Band 17.

That’s AT&T property, so it appears that at least for starters the Sony Xperia Z2 will become available for purchase from the carrier. That means the slate will most likely sell with the usual 2-year contract.

Maybe other carriers will jump at the opportunity to offer Sony’s new tablet in the future, but we can’t say which, at the moment.

The US launch of the Sony Xperia Z2 was imminent, since Sony is expected to globally launch the tablet worldwide in March (and we’re in March).

As for pricing, we can’t really satisfy your curiosity. All we can tell you is that the Sony UK online store is asking for £499 / $824 / €598 for the 16GB LTE model.

Now for a quick memory refresh, the Xperia Z2 Tablet is supposed to arrive with a 10.1-inch Triluminos display bundling Sony’s new Live color LED tech ad boasting a full HD resolution (1920 x 1080 pixels).

A 2.3GHz quad-core Snapdragon 801 processor lies under the hood, combined with a nice 3GB of RAM. In the photography department, Sony has implemented an 8.1MP front snapper with Superior Auto mode, while the front is home to a decent 2.2MP camera.

Everything on board is powered by a relatively big 6000 mAh battery, so the tablet should last enough for you to do your business.

Also an important aspect to mention, Sony claims this is the “world’s slimmest and lightest waterproof tablet” so expect to be truly impressed by its size and feel.
