14 DAY TRIAL // As expected, Sony Mobile has just introduced the Xperia Z2 in India. During the launch event, Sony’s officials highlighted the main features of their flagship smartphone, along with some of the free goodies that would come with the handset.
But let’s see when the smartphone will be available for purchase and for how much. Well, previous rumors claimed that the Xperia Z2 might go on sale in India for as low as Rs 48,000 ($800 / €575) and would hit shelves in mid-May.
Another more recent rumor stated that the smartphone could be priced at Rs 49,990 ($835 / €600) and should be up for sale beginning May 15.
Unfortunately, neither rumor was 100% accurate, as Sony Mobile has announced that the Xperia Z2 will be available in India for Rs 49,990 outright and that it will arrive in stock on May 12.
This means that customers eager to get their hands on Sony’s newest flagship smartphone will have to wait less than a week from now in order to be able to grab it from shelves.
Anyway, aside from the fact that it will be released on the market on May 12, Sony has also revealed that each customer purchasing the Xperia Z2 will also receive a free Sony SmartBand worth Rs 5,990 ($100 / €70) and a flip-cover worth Rs 2,990 ($50 / €35).
Keep in mind that those who do not want these freebies will not get a discount on the smartphone, so they will still have to come up with Rs 49,990 ($835 / €600) upfront to get it.
It is also worth mentioning that Sony Xperia Z2 will be available for purchase via major retailers across the country in three color options: Black, White and Purple.
Aside from the freebies mentioned earlier, those who grab the Sony Xperia Z2 in India will also receive 2GB of free data for two months if they are Vodafone customers.
According to fonearena, they will also receive Accidental Damage Protection for 6 months, 6 Hollywood movies for free via Xperia Lounge application and Michael Jackson’s XSCAPE album when it debuts next week.
It also boasts a hyper-vibrant 5.2-inch TRILUMINOUS display with Live Colour LED powered by X-Reality Engine, which features support for full HD (1080p) resolution.
The smartphone ships with Android 4.4.2 KitKat operating system out of the box and it’s IP55 / IP58 certified for dust and water resistance.
