14 DAY TRIAL // Sony Mobile is gearing up for the launch of a new flagship Android-based smartphone, one that has leaked online a few times before under the codename of Sirius, and some more info on the handset’s camera capabilities is now available.
The upcoming device supposedly sports the model number Sony D6503 and is expected to hit shelves with a 20.7-megapixel camera on the back, the same as Sony’s Xperia Z1 did before it.
Sample photos taken with this camera have emerged online and can be seen attached to this post, complemented by sample images from Xperia Z1, for comparison purposes.
A recent article on XperiaGuide notes that these images come from XDA-Developers Forum member iRimas, who has managed to grab hold of a prototype version of Sirius, and who has already provided a series of details on what the phone will have to offer when launched.
One thing that we should note, however, is the fact that the firmware loaded on the smartphone is not a final version, which suggests that the actual image capabilities of commercial units might differ.
The camera on the back of Sirius is said to be identical with that on Xperia Z1, but the difference that can be seen in the photos below comes from the fact that they run under different firmware releases.
Rumor has it that Sony D6503 Xperia Sirius will arrive on the market with a 5-inch touchscreen display capable of delivering a full HD resolution, and that it will be powered by a 2.3GHz quad-core Snapdragon 800 processor.
Moreover, the phone should sport 3GB of RAM inside, 16GB of internal memory, microSD memory card slot, front camera for video calling, and the usual set of connectivity options and sensors.
Sony is expected to launch Xperia Sirius with the Android 4.4.2 KitKat operating system loaded on top and might be set to do so as soon as the next month, so stay tuned for additional info on the matter.
