A handset that could make Xperia enthusiasts quite happy

This year, Google is expected to take its Nexus program a step further with the launch of more than a single new handset featuring the popular name on it.

We have already learned that HTC, LG and Samsung might be involved in this, each with its own new device, and that Motorola might also have a Nexus smartphone made official in the coming weeks, yet nothing has been so far said of Sony’s plans for the program.

Since it is one of the major manufacturers of Android-based devices, we wouldn’t be surprised if the company actually had its own Nexus phone in the works, even if no specific rumor on the matter has emerged.

However, one designer appears convinced that we might see a Nexus phone put on shelves in the not too distant future from Sony, and that it would also be included in the highly popular Xperia series of smartphones.

The same as Samsung’s Galaxy Nexus, the new device might sport the name of both families of devices attached to it, which means that it might be made official as Sony Xperia Nexus.

Moreover, said designer, who goes by the nickname of slatd, decided to come up with their own vision of the handset, and published it on DeviantArt in the form of a concept phone.

The phone can be seen in the photo to the left, with a curved design similar to that of other Sony Xperia devices, and with hardware specifications said to resemble those of Xperia TX.

This suggests a 4.6-inch touchscreen on the front of the device, along with a 1.5 GHz Qualcomm Krait MSM8260-A Dual-Core processor inside, and a 13 megapixel photo snapper on the back, with full HD video recording capabilities.

Of course, Xperia Nexus would also boast a series of enhancements over the already existing phone, including features powered by a new operating system flavor, supposedly Android 4.2.

For the time being, the Xperia Nexus smartphone is only a concept device, yet the idea is not far-fetched, and we wouldn’t be surprised if it actually materializes in an official product.
