14 DAY TRIAL // Japanese carrier NTT Docomo has nnounced earlier today its 2014 summer lineup of smartphones and its portfolio contains a few completely new devices that haven’t been released in any other country yet.
We have reported that the network operator has started selling the Samsung Galaxy S5 in Japan, but NTT Docomo has it in pink, aside from the usual black and white colors.
The pink Galaxy S5 is not available in other countries yet, but Samsung will probably make it available in more regions soon.
Among the long list of Android smartphones that will make their debut at NTT Docomo, the carrier has listed a brand new Sony Xperia device that has yet to be officially announced by the Japanese handset maker, the Xperia A2.
According to fonearena, Sony Xperia A2 has been confirmed to arrive at NTT Docomo in mid-June, but no details on the price tag have been shared yet.
The Xperia A2 will go on sale in Japan under SO-04F codename, which is a bit hard to remember if you’re not used to the way NTT Docomo tags its products.
Anyway, for those who wish to know more about the Xperia A2, here are some details on the smartphone’s specs sheet, as confirmed by Sony Mobile Japan.
First of all, Sony Xperia A2 will ship with Android 4.4 KitKat operating system out of the box. The smartphone sports a rather small 4.3-inch capacitive touchscreen display that integrates TRILUMINOUS and X-Reality for Mobiles technologies and supports HD (720p) resolution.
From what we can tell, the Xperia A2 is a compact high-end smartphone aimed at those who prefer smaller displays. The smartphone features IP55 / IP58 rating for dust and water resistance and comes packed with a powerful 2.2GHz quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 processor.
The CPU is complemented by an Adreno 330 graphics processing unit and 2GB of RAM. Sony Xperia A2 comes with 16GB of internal memory, but users can further expand storage up to 128GB via microSD card slot.
There’s also a secondary 2.2-megapixel camera in the front, which is perfect for selfies and video calls. The Xperia A2 comes preloaded with a few specific services that won’t be available in other countries, such as Xi LTE support.
Sony Xperia A2 is only 9.7mm thin and weighs 138 grams (battery included). The smartphone will be available for purchase in Lavender, White, Gray Black and Orange.
