Another Android-based smartphone from Sony Mobile is now available for purchase in the company’s homeland market Japan, in the form of Sony Xperia A2.

Featuring model number SO-04F, the mobile phone was announced earlier this year with support for the network of wireless carrier NTT DoCoMo, and users in Japan interested in its purchase will only be able to enjoy its capabilities at this operator.

As XperiaBlog notes, the mobile phone was made available for purchase with a price tag of 69,120 Yen (£399 / €498 / $679) and is already up for grabs online for those interested in making the acquisition from the comfort of their homes.

For those out of the loop, we should also note that the mobile phone was announced with hardware specs similar to those available inside last year’s Xperia Z1 f, which was put up for grabs internationally as Xperia Z1 Compact.

However, there is a series of differences between the two, starting with the presence of a matte plastic back on the newer device and its availability in a series of new color options, such as Lavender and Orange. The handset was also announced in Grey, Black, and White.

The Sony Xperia A2 was released in Japan with a 4.3-inch touchscreen display capable of delivering a 720p resolution, the same as its predecessor.

Moreover, the new handset is powered by a 2.2GHz quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon MSM8974 chipset, which also includes Adreno 330 graphics, along with 2GB of RAM, which will ensure appealing performance capabilities.

The Sony Xperia A2 also comes to the market with 16GB of internal memory, which is complemented by a microSD memory card slot for storage expansion purposes.

On the back, the smartphone features a 20.7-megapixel camera with Exmor RS sensor, like its predecessor, and the same as Xperia Z2 does. A 2.2MP Exmor R front camera for video calling is also available on this smartphone.

Moreover, the new mobile phone arrives on the market with all of the usual connectivity capabilities inside, such as 4G LTE, 3G, Wi-Fi, and Bluetooth, as well as with the entire set of common sensors.

Just like the latest high-end Xperia handsets out there, the smartphone arrives on the market with IP55/IP58 certification for dust and water resistance.

Sony Xperia A2 is powered by a 2300mAh battery and runs under the Android 4.4.2 KitKat operating system. On top of it, the phone sports Sony’s own set of exclusive apps and customizations.
