On May 8, Japanese mobile phone maker Sony Mobile will host a press event in New Delhi, where it should launch the flagship Xperia Z2 in the country, and the company has already started to send out invitations to the media, BGR.in reports.

Sony Xperia Z2 was made official during the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, Spain, and was supposed to arrive in various markets out there starting with March, but a series of supply issues have determined Sony to push its release back for a bit, at least in some markets.

However, recent reports on the matter have suggested that the company was indeed getting ready to launch the phone in India later this week, and the aforementioned media invitations appear to confirm it.

No info on when the phone might actually hit shelves in India has been provided as of now, and details on its pricing are missing as well, though all will be made official on Thursday, so stay tuned to learn the news.

One thing that is certain, however, is the fact that Xperia Z2 will arrive in India with all the features and capabilities it was announced with back in February.

This includes a 5.2-inch touchscreen display capable of delivering a full HD resolution, as well as a 2.3GHz quad-core Snapdragon 801 processor.

Moreover, the Sony Xperia Z2 arrives on shelves with 3GB of RAM inside, as well as with 16GB of internal memory, complemented by a microSD memory card slot for expansion purposes, offering support for up to 128GB of external storage.

On the back, the Sony Xperia Z2 features a 20.7-megapixel camera that can record videos in 4K resolution. Additionally, the smartphone features a 2MP front camera, which should prove a great option when it comes to making video calls while on the go.

The smartphone will also feature support for 4G LTE connectivity, along with 3G capabilities, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth capabilities, NFC, and a built-in GPS receiver. Moreover, the handset comes with the entire range of usual sensors included in the package.

Sony Xperia Z2 runs under the Android 4.4.2 KitKat operating system right out of the box, but it also features Sony’s own exclusive features and applications loaded on top.

Users in India interested in the purchase of this device can already head over to Sony’s website in the country to pre-register for getting one as soon as it is put up for sale.
