After news of Lenovo acquiring Motorola Mobility surfaced online, talk about another major acquisition began circling the web.
It appeared Lenovo and Sony kick-started a series of discussions concentrated on the possibility of the former acquiring Sony’s failing PC business (the VAIO line) and taking it overseas.
But the Japanese giant full-heartedly denied the rumors and called them inaccurate. As PCPro reports, the company recognized it was looking at a possible solution on how to resuscitate the VAIO division.
"Sony continues to address various options for the PC business, but the press report on a possible PC business alliance between Sony and Lenovo is inaccurate," said the company’s official statement.
Sony is one of many brand vendors that has experienced failing notebook/PC shipments, due to the rising popularity of tablets and smartphones.
Lenovo, on the other hand, bases 80% of its revenue on PC business, so the fact that Sony might seek the tech giant’s assistance to bring the mojo back, makes a lot of sense, albeit being incorrect.
