The OLED version could not be integrated with the new design

The team at Sony handling the launch of the new PlayStation Vita Slim device believes that most players will never notice the difference between the new LCD screen that is being introduced and the OLED that was originally part of the device.

Fergal Gara, the leader of the United Kingdom division of the company, tells Eurogamer that, “we wouldn't introduce the device if that compromise was significant. We think it's very small, if not imperceptible. It's giving bigger advantages than disadvantages - it's helping with the battery life, with the thickness.”

Apparently, only gamers who are specifically looking for a reduction in the visual quality of the Vita will be able to actually spot changes.

Gara also believes that the introduction of the PlayStation Vita Slim might boost sales of the platform and make it more appealing to those looking for something to play on the move.

He adds, “It's still a superior device, and it offers a better screen experience, so it plays a role for the committed gamer. But also it's also a very exciting accessory to PlayStation 4, so it has a very different role to other devices. But it may not be as huge as PSP, which sold 75, 80 million units across a number of years.”

At the moment, the PlayStation Vita Slim is only confirmed as coming on February 7 in the United Kingdom and gamers can already pre-order one.

Sony will probably make an official announcement about launch in North America and the rest of Europe before the end of the month.

The handheld is lighter, slimmer and has more battery life and the company is aiming to boost its initial sales by launching a number of mega bundles, starting with one focused on indie titles.

The PlayStation Vita has also been recently promoted as the best second screen experience for the PlayStation 4.
