Emagon = No Game = Game On = Go Name = A Gnome

Sony is currently teasing us with a mysterious trailer for Emagon, an unknown project meant to celebrate the PlayStation's 20th anniversary.

The video, available below, was dropped by the official Spanish PlayStation blog and revolves around some mysterious entity named Emagon, touted as the PlayStation's best kept secret.

Beyond speculation of it being The Last Guardian, Shenmue or a Final Fantasy VII remaster, we know nothing of the actual thing that the atmospheric trailer alludes to. Aside from hi-def foliage and a sprawling wasteland, the trailer seems very secretive.

The video also has a sort of indie filmmaker HUD splattered across the screen looking terribad, unsure of whether it wants to convince people that Emagon is a game or not. Speaking of which, the very name, Emagon, is an anagram for No Game or Game On, as NeoGAF speculates. Granted, it could also be from A Gnome, maybe hinting at Sony's response to Tolkien's "Hobbit" adventure.

Speculation

Speaking of the speculation at NeoGAF, some users managed to spot some surprisingly similar wording in the both the Emagon teaser trailer and in a trailer from 10 years ago, for Dark Cloud 2, which has led them to believe that Sony is currently looking to revive the series and release a Dark Cloud 3.

Dark Cloud 2 is an action role-playing game released for the PlayStation 2 in 2003, where players assume control of two characters, one from the past and one from the future, working in tandem to take down an evil character trying to destroy the present.

Others say that it's something related to Silent Hills, the ninth installment in the classic horror franchise, headed to the PlayStation 4 at an unspecified later date. The game is directed by Hideo Kojima, who had dabbled in cryptic messages before, and famed feature film director Guillermo del Toro is assisting him in assembling a proper horror video game.

The game was initially revealed in an unconventional manner, via a downloadable first-person horror game dubbed P.T. for Playable Teaser, made available for free on the PlayStation 4 back in August.

Certainty

For the time being, our guess is as good as yours. It may very well be Ego Man, a social experiment meant to transcend the limits of hardware systems by using our collective computing power and to form a singularity.

In any case, we'll know more for sure on Friday, December 5, when the PlayStation Experience event kicks off in Las Vegas, and Sony will most likely make the full reveal. In case it doesn't do it earlier, at the former Spike VGX awards, now dubbed simply The Game Awards, taking place this weekend in Las Vegas, and said to deliver over ten gaming premieres, both new footage from highly anticipated upcoming titles and brand new game announcements.
