Japanese customers should already be getting the update

You'd think that PlayStation game console controllers wouldn't be more than that, but Sony begs to differ, since it is implementing support for them in other devices as well.

In this case, the Japanese company is bringing PS controller compatibility to the Tablet S.

So far, only 32-bit games from the age of the original PlayStation are available on the tablet, but at least now the item fits the bill of what a PlayStation-certified item should be.

It will take an additional USB adapter cable to link the controller to the Tablet S, though.

Also, while this device has earned this functionality, the same cannot be said about the Tablet P, the dual-screen item.

At least the company is offering the upgrade as a free download, even though only Japanese customers have access to it at present.

All this info comes by the grace of a very roughly translated press release via Engadget.

The Tablet S is powered by the NVIDIA Tegra 2 SoC (system-on-chip) platform, which is composed of two Arm Cortex A9 processors with a clock speed of 1 GHz each.

Said platform also incorporates a graphics processing unit, otherwise it wouldn't have amassed such a reputation.

That said, the 9.4-inch screen features a native resolution of 1,280 x 800 pixels and is accompanied by all the expected connectivity and I/O capabilities.

That means an SD card slot, Bluetooth 2.1, 802.11 b/g/n wireless connectivity (WiFi), DLNA support and a pair of camera (5 megapixels on the back, 0.3 megapixels on the front).

Finally, the Sony Tablet S boasts 1 GB of RAM and either 16 GB or 32 GB of storage space and runs on a Li-Ion 5000mAh battery.

The dual-display tablet P may or may not eventually be given PS controller support in the future. People will just have to wait and see.
