The PlayStation Vita also got a 25% boost in sales since the launch of its newest big brother, due to its momentum

Sony has recently revealed a bunch of very interesting information pertaining to the sales of its PlayStation 4 and PlayStation Vita devices, showing a pretty strong momentum for both of them.

The data comes from Sony's press conference event livestream at the Tokyo Game Show in Japan, via IGN, where the company showed how well the PlayStation 4 was selling and its beneficial impact on PS Vita sales.

Although Sony dropped much of its support for the Vita, at least when it comes to first-party triple-A titles, the company found a new niche for the handheld, giving up on attempting to offer an experience that's on par with console gaming and letting it find its own thing.

PlayStation 4 and PlayStation Vita sales are growing

The company showed that PlayStation Vita sales were up by 25 percent since the PlayStation 4 was launched, largely due to the fact that the handheld was perfectly tuned for Remote Play, with many enjoying big hits such as Diablo 3: Ultimate Evil Edition or Destiny on the go, streaming gameplay from their PlayStation 4 consoles at home.

The PlayStation 4, however, is the true star of the show, as the data provided by Sony points to it being the fastest-selling console that the company has ever released in Asia, surpassing both the PlayStation 2 and PlayStation 3 computer entertainment systems.

PS4 is going strong, dragging the Vita along

The PlayStation 4 home console has sold over 10 million units worldwide since its release in November 2013, and is available in 58 countries all across the globe, while its main competitor, Microsoft's Xbox One computer entertainment system, has only managed to push 5 million units, as of April this year.

Microsoft is hanging on to its data for the time being, waiting for the busy holiday season before revealing any more information related to sales.

In any case, the boost that the PlayStation Vita saw after the release of the PlayStation 4, measured at an impressive 25 percent rise over the numbers registered in the previous period, is very good news for Sony.

Since its launch at the beginning of 2012 (late 2011 for Japan), the Vita struggled to gain footing, not managing to sell well on any of the markets that it was made available on. The massive success of Remote Play along with the increasing library of indie games that are better tailored for a handheld platform are most likely the decisive factors in the device's surge.
