It might be combined with the DualShock 3

During the last few weeks, everybody in the gaming industry has been talking about the new motion sensitive technologies that would appear soon enough on the market. At E3, we saw both Microsoft and Sony revealing their new projects set to rival Nintendo's existing technology.

While Microsoft has been hyping up its Project Natal left and right, proclaiming it to be the best thing that ever happened to gaming in a long time, Sony has been quite secretive about its own technology, which uses a PlayStation Eye camera that records the movement of controllers that are similar to the Wii Remote.

Recently, the company issued a statement for its developers, which was partly published by Kotaku. In the statement, the Japanese company says that the technology will be launched in spring next year with a “range of first-party and third-party content.” The new controller will work “with any games across all genres from casual to core,” thus making it ideal for any type of gamer.

Force feedback, as featured in the DualShock 3 controller, will also be incorporated in the upcoming controller, which will boast both face and head tracking capabilities that will deliver developers “powerful tools for new types of user interaction.” Also, the built-in microphone of the PS Eye will be used for voice input and voice recognition from the player.

But don't think that this new technology won't have a toll on the hardware of the PlayStation 3, as Sony notes that “motion-tracking library has some SPU overhead and has an impact on memory as well, although these will be minimized.” That will certainly give developers like Crytek, which boasts to have pushed the PS3 to its edge, something to think about.

Also, you'd better keep your DualShock 3 controllers, as Sony is looking into the possibility of combining the two devices in order to use “the motion controller as a sword and use DualShock 3 as a shield.”

Overall, are you interested in Sony's new technology? Or will Project Natal or the Wii MotionPlus be better? Share your opinion with us in the comments section.
