Minor update

Sony is continuing the constant stream of firmware updates for the PlayStation 3 gaming console by releasing version 2.52. It's a minor update, as the version number suggests, but still mandatory. As soon as you power up your device, you need to go into the System Update part of the PS3 setting menu in order to update your system.

As developers recently said on the PlayStation Blog, the new firmware is set to improve “playback quality of some PS3 format software” while also fixing various issues which appear “when using the on-screen keyboard, USB keyboard or Bluetooth keyboard with some PS3 format software”. At least, unlike the release of other minor updates, Sony is telling gamers what the new firmware will do, in order to quench any rumor related to bigger problems with the PlayStation 3.

Firmware 2.5 was the previous big update for the console and introduced a lot of interesting stuff, the most important being the support for Flash 9 for the Internet browser of the PS3. Sony is also introducing a power saving feature for the controller pads and for the central units of the console which players can tweak to their preference and the possibility to take in game screenshots from those games which offer support for the feature. Various tweaks needed for the launch of the much expected Home were also added.

Sony is continuing to promote an incremental approach to system updates, constantly delivering more and more features to the PlayStation 3 at regular intervals. Microsoft is taking a different approach with the Xbox 360, supposed to get a major revamp on November 19 through the New Xbox Experience, which will introduce Avatars, Netflix support and a very different interface offering more information. Microsoft is saying that the user will feel like using a whole new console.
