Just this weekend we were telling you that Sony is expected to launch an RX camera with its new, innovative curved sensor tech next month at Photokina in Germany.

Apart from this one, Sony is said to be prepping another RX camera, but this time it will bundle a conventional flat sensor.

Sony unveiled the RX100 III camera not so long ago, a device arriving with a new 20.1-megapixel 1-inch type sensor and working alongside a 27-70mm f/1.8-2.8 lens.

But the rumor mill kept spinning, claiming that a full frame RX model was also in the works. The model was speculated to arrive either under the RX1s name or RX2.

Just a few days ago, we told you that in all possibility the RX1s will be the camera boasting the curved sensor tech.

And now Sony Alpha Rumors has leaked some of the specs of the remaining RX2 model, showing us that the device will indeed come with a flat sensor.

Surely, it’s not a piece of news as exciting as the RX1s and its curved sensor one, still it doesn't mean the RX2 won’t be a worthy camera.

According to the info, the compact device will take advantage of the same sensor tech that’s to be found in the Sony A7R full-frame E-mount camera. In translation, this means users will be able to snap photographs at 36.4-megapixel resolution.

Surely, this is just a rumor at this point, but in case the information turns out to be true, the RX2 might prove to be quite an amazing compact camera.

Consider the fact that the current RX1R comes equipped with a 24.3-inch FF sensor, devoid of an anti-aliasing filter. So bundling a 36.4MP sensor in the upcoming RX2 camera is quite a leap.

Moving along, the source also brings to our attention the fact the RX2 should be the first RX full-frame camera to take advance of zoom lens.

The RX1 and RX1R arrive with Zeiss 35mm f/2 lens, and word on the street has it the RX1s will take advantage of a Zeiss 35mm f/1.8 lens.

As for the RX2, Sony is expected to add a 35-70 f/2.8 lens with a maximum aperture of f/2.8 throughout its focal length range.

The new curved sensor technology appears not to be all that zoom-friendly at this point, but Sony wants to offer products capable of catering to every photographer’s needs, hence the full-frame compact camera with a zoom lens.

While the RX1s is expected to make a debut on the grounds of Photokina, the RX2 is said to be following somewhere in 2015, although we’re not given a specific date.
