Rumors on Sony’s PlayStation Suite SDK surfaced several months ago, when the Japanese company reportedly released a closed beta version.

Today, Sony announced that an open beta PlayStation Suite SDK would be available for all developers who want to create apps for Sony’s platform.

The open beta version will be available for free and is expected to arrive in April. However, devs who want to continue to use the SDK will have to pay a $99 annual subscription for the final version of PlayStation Suite SDK, which will be released “later this year.”

Although the closed beta was only available in Japan, United States and the United Kingdom, the open beta version that will be available from April will expand target countries beyond these three.

With the PlayStation Suite SDK developers will also be able to verify their content developed with the open beta version on PlayStation Vita.

In addition, the upcoming open beta version includes devs feedback, which means that it will provide enhanced productivity and efficiency of the content development environment.

The official version of the SDK will allow content developers to continue to create content which was developed with the open beta or the closed beta versions.

According to Sony, more content for PlayStation Suite will be added in Japan, United States, Canada, United Kingdom, France, Italy, Germany, Spain, and Australia.

All content created with these SDKs will be fully accessible to all PlayStation Certified Android devices, smartphones and tablets, as well as PS Vita.

Currently, the line-up of PlayStation Certified devices includes Xperia arc, Xperia acro, Xperia PLAY, Xperia acro HD, Xperia S, Xperia ion from Sony, as well as Sony Tablet S and Sony Tablet P.

However, Sony will continue to expand the list of PlayStation Certified devices with more smartphones and tablets as they meet the needed requirements.
