The PlayStation 4 might be currently winning the sales battle with the Xbox One, but the team handling the home console at Sony knows that it cannot rest and that it needs to deliver a constant set of new features for the new title in order to keep users satisfied.

At the same time, the company promised a number of major features when the next-gen device was announced, including the ability to put the device into sleep mode while playing and resume from the same spot later, and a system that allows a friend to take control remotely using the Internet connection.

Shuhei Yoshida, the leader of the Worldwide Studios, tells Kotaku that the company has not forgotten about its promises and that it is currently working to make sure that they are delivered to the PlayStation 4 via firmware update in the coming months.

He states, “Our team has been working on it. There are some things that we announced in February of last year that were not planned for the launch timeframe. It’s not ready yet.”

The executive is not sure when the new features might be added to the PlayStation 4, but apparently, his entire hardware-focused team is moving as fast as possible.

He adds, “I am asking the same question to my tech team every other week. Because every day I get reminded by lots of people: ‘Where is this? Where is that?’ It’s a great reminder for me.”

The PlayStation 4 has been receiving a number of new features via firmware updates recently, including more options to share content.

Sony has said that it has managed to deliver 7 million consoles to gamers since the next-gen device was launched and recently, the NPD Group has announced that it is the best-selling platform in the United States for the past five months.

During the same period, the Xbox One from Microsoft only moved around 5 million devices to stores, but the company made the big decision to drop the Kinect motion tracking system from the core retail package and move the price point to 399 dollars or Euro.

In the coming months, the next-gen console competition will focus less on major game releases and more on core features for the player to use, which might force Sony to move as fast as possible to deliver the promised enhanced functionality for the PlayStation 4.
