Despite shutting down its digital reading business in the US, Sony has a new eReader out

As it is already well known, Sony is shutting down its North American eBook business, including the Sony Reader Store in a few days.

But funnily enough, just with a few days before the dead-line, the latest Sony eBook reader, PRS-T3 has made it to the US market.

The PRS-T3 is available for purchase on Amazon and, according to the listing, it showed up a week after Sony officially announced it was pulling the plug on the eBook department in the US.

The devices launched in Europe and Canada last autumn and, for some reason, it is now available in the States, as well. Even more strangely, Sony itself is known to have stated that the company would not be bringing the device to American shores. I guess they reconsidered.

As for specifications, the PRS-T3 is using a Pearl E-ink screen with touch capabilities, but has no frontlight. The device ships from Amazon for $149 / €108 a pop.

Surely, the eReader will continue to function even as Sony closes the gates to its eBook store, but bear in mind that it’s rather expensive when compared to other similar products on the market (read Kindle Paperwhite or Kobo Aura), so there are not many drawing points here, unless you wish to own a real-life relic.
