In light of the unfortunate events that hit both PlayStation Network and Xbox Live on Christmas day, at least one of the companies that haven't been able to prevent the DDoS attacks executed by Lizard Squad is now offering some compensations to its customers.

Sony has just announced that all PlayStation Plus members who had an active membership or free trial on Christmas day (December 25) will receive a membership extension of five days.

The promised extension will be automatically applied to all accounts that qualify for it, so there's no need for additional action from customers.

PlayStation Plus members with subscriptions or trials that end before this 5-day extension becomes available will still receive five days of PlayStation Plus to enjoy once the extension is live.

According to Sony, the moment the extension becomes available, they will announce it through multiple official communication channels, including their blog.

Sony has yet to announce when the 10% discount code will be offered

That is not all, as PlayStation Plus members were not the only ones hit by the PlayStation Network outage. Any PlayStation console owner who wanted to log in to PSN was unable to do so because the services were down for several days.

For those without PlayStation Plus memberships or trials, Sony has something else in mind. Sometime this month, Sony will announce that for a limited time, they will offer a 10% discount code that can be used by all PlayStation Network members for a one-time discount off a total cart purchase in the PlayStation Store.

Sony has also confirmed that the 10% discount will be valid for just about any content in the PlayStation Store, including blockbuster new releases, indie games, game add-ons and season passes, as well as “an enormous selection of TV and Movies.”

We're expecting more details on when these offerings will be available to PSN members, so stay tuned for more info on the matter.
