Sony Mobile has just announced that several mid-range Xperia smartphones are now available for a reduced price in India.

According to AndroidOS, no less than five handsets have received various price cuts in the India, thus bringing some of these smartphones under the Rs 15,000 ($275/€205) bracket.

The cheapest of the five is the Sony Xperia U, which is now available for purchase in India for only Rs 13,990 ($255/€190) outright.

Next in line are two very popular Sony smartphones, the Xperia sola and Xperia go. Each is now available for purchase for only Rs 14,490 ($265/€195) off contract.

The new price cuts on Sony Android smartphones are not a surprise, as many other handset manufacturers have discounted their older products in order to make room for the new ones.

Sony has already announced two new high-end Android phones at the Consumer Electronics Show 2013, the Xperia Z and Xperia ZL.

Both smartphones are expected to arrive on the market next month, though some countries might receive them a few months later.

Keep in mind that all five smartphones discounted in India are shipped with Android 4.0.4 Ice Cream Sandwich operating system out of the box, though Sony has already confirmed that some of them will receive a Jelly Bean upgrade in the coming weeks.

The best-featured of the five recently discounted Sony smartphones, the Xperia SL packs a dual-core processor clocked at 1.7 GHz, an Adreno 220 graphics processing unit and 1GB of RAM.

In addition, the smartphone sports a decent 4.3-inch LCD Sony Mobile Bravia Engine display that supports HD (720 x 1280 pixels) resolution.

All five smartphones are available for reduced prices at official Sony brick and mortar store locations, as well as online.
