Gamers on Facebook can easily be tempted to try out the PlayStation 3 or PS Vita

Sony has confirmed that it’s always experimenting with new platforms, like social networks or mobile devices, and that it will definitely try to bring some of its intellectual properties and games to them, unlike other companies.

While gaming used to happen on the PC and dedicated consoles, we’ve seen it spread to mobile platforms, like smartphones or tablets, as well as on social networks like Facebook.

Seeing as how there are already some great experiences present, many gamers are expecting companies like Nintendo to bring their properties on them, alongside actual consoles.

Such a thing isn’t happening, at least with Nintendo, but Sony is more than willing to experience with new platforms and its existing games, at least according to the company’s worldwide studios boss Shuhei Yoshida.

"That's a really good question, and that I believe is totally possible," he told Industry Gamers about bringing Sony IPs to Facebook or mobile devices. "So we are experimenting, and I don't necessarily believe we're competing against cell phones or social networks – because everybody uses Facebook and lots more people have cell phones and smartphones already."

Yoshida believes that the lifestyle of a gamer and, in fact, any media consumer has evolved beyond consoles, so it’s crucial to bring IPs to people through new ways and make them return to traditional platforms.

"With people's lifestyles, they're always connected and engaged socially, so why not put our IP on there... or give some small experience [related to our IP] like you said? So we like the idea and will continue to experiment to see how best we can use this new medium to connect to our new IPs."

While you won’t get to see a full-fledged Uncharted game appear on Facebook, it’s more than possible to see tie-in experiences that promote the franchise’s PlayStation 3 or PlayStation Vita iterations.
