Sony Ericsson has been long rumored to plan the release of new handsets this week at the Consumer Electronics Shows 2012 in Las Vegas, and some more info on them has just started to emerge.

It appears that the company will launch at least two smartphones in the coming days, and that they will both be included in the Xperia family.

One of these devices will be called Xperia S, while the other will land under the name of Xperia Ion, a recent article on SEMC blog reads.

Apparently, both of these devices have been spotted over the Internet before. The Xperia S is none other than the long rumored Nozomi (which was said to arrive as the successor of Xperia arc), while the Xperia Ion is said to be the Sony Ericsson LT28at.

It is still unclear whether the Xperia Ion is indeed the LT28at smartphone, but the fact that it will arrive on shelves with a 4.6-inch touchscreen display appears to confirm that.

Moreover, it seems that it will be released on the network of wireless carrier AT&T. Previous rumors on LT28at suggested the same.

Although it is not specifically mentioned, the two handsets are expected to run under Google’s Android operating system when released. The latest members of the Xperia family were all Android devices.

Both handsets are rumored to feature only the Sony brand on the front, LT26i (Nozomi) having it placed above the screen, while LT28at has it below the display.

Last year, Sony bought Ericsson’s share in the joint venture, and announced plans to have new smartphones launched under the Sony brand. Sony Ericsson will become a division of Sony starting this year.

Thus, it makes sense for the two new smartphones to sport only the Sony brand, though nothing has been confirmed on them officially. Rumor has it that both of them will be formally introduced today, so stay tuned for more info on the matter.
