It seems that Sony Ericsson users will no longer face compatibility problems with the memory cards that work with their handsets, as the company is determined to move forth towards using MicroSD memory cards in its future mobile phones, starting with the recently announced Sony Ericsson Satio, Aino and Yari.

As many of you might already know, Sony Ericsson is currently using Sony’s Memory Stick Micro cards, which are a bit longer than those provided by SanDisk and other companies. Most often, those who needed to transfer information from the card on a computer would have had to connect the handset through a cable, for the cards were not compatible with built-in memory card readers.

According to TrustedReviews, Sony Ericsson Global Marketing Director Fortune Alexander stated recently that the company would indeed use only MicroSD memory cards with its future handsets, and that the M2 cards would be removed from the equation. “Yes, we are moving in that direction,” Alexander stated when asked if this was what would actually happen.

It seems that the company plans to make its mobile phones more attractive to users around the world, and that the recent quarterly losses have determined it to search for new ways to make that happen. And since the newly announced handsets seem to aim for the high-end market, it is understandable why Sony Ericsson decided it was time to leave proprietary technologies aside and make the devices more progressive.

Besides announcing the shift in choice in regard to the memory cards used with future Sony Ericsson phones, TrustedReviews also points towards the fact that the company is preparing to make a new announcement as soon as this Thursday. Although no details were unveiled, it seems that a new handset might see the light of day as soon as tomorrow, but it remains to be seen what the joint venture's plans actually are.
