One of the world's largest technology distributor, Ingram Micro has just announced that it has teamed up with Sony Ericsson to bring several Xperia smartphones in the Unites States.

Under agreement, Ingram Micro will distribute Sony Ericsson unlocked phones in the U.S starting later this month.

Unfortunately, the only device that Sony Ericsson mentions in the agreement is the Xperia arc S, but we can safely assume that some of the latest model will be available as well, possibly the Xperia ray, Xperia arc and Xperia neo V.

According to Ingram Micro, the smartphones will be delivered via its reseller partners, including many e-tailers and retailers such as Amazon.com, Best Buy, Buy.com and Newegg.com.

By teaming with Ingram Micro, we're expanding our channel reach through their robust distribution program and we're excited to forge new relationships with retailers and customers,” said Peter Farmer, Head of Marketing for North America, Sony Ericsson.

It looks like Nokia is not the only brand that is bargaining with U.S.-based carriers and retailers to make more of its devices available in the market.

However, Sony Ericsson's marketing move does not come as a surprise, especially in light of Sony's decision to take over the whole company and purchase Ericsson's stake in the join-venture.

This is probably part of a larger plan meant to expand Xperia smartphones' market in more regions of the world.

Sony Ericsson's Xperia smartphone portfolio represents a diverse line-up that not only capitalizes on the growing Android platform, but also fits the market's need for greater manufacturer selection. We're thrilled to bring Sony Ericsson devices to our channel partners at a time when consumer demand for innovative smartphones is growing fast and converging with the business world,” concluded Robert Garry, Director of Mobility, Ingram Micro Inc.

Sony Ericsson is expected to face fierce competition in the United States, especially when it comes to Android smartphone market, which is already split among HTC, Motorola and Samsung.
