New color, more sober

The Z555 is not among Sony Ericsson's most advanced mobile phones, but it can surely become one of the company's big successes when it comes to number of units sold, since it's both affordable and good looking.

Initially released only in two color versions, Dusted Rose and Diamond Black, the phone comes now in a third color: Linear Black. This is not too different from the Diamond Black one, but it's a bit more sober, targeting users who don't like their handsets to be too shiny.

Apparently, only the Z555a version (made for the American market) is offered in the new color, while the Z555i European and Asian version still has only two colors. Or at least that's what the product pages of the phones say: the Z555a page can be found here and the Z555i one can be found here.

Colors aside, the Z555 is an entry-level clamshell phone that features tri-band GSM connectivity with GPRS and EDGE, a 1.9 inch main TFT display with 176 x 220 pixels and up to 256K colors supported, an external hidden display (monochrome OLED), gesture control function (allowing you to put the phone on mute with a simple hand waving), Music player with equalizer, FM radio with RDS, Bluetooth 2.0 with A2DP, a 1.3 Megapixel camera, email, Instant Messaging, Web browsing capabilities, USB 2.0 and extendable memory (up to 1GB). The handset weighs 95 grams, it measures 95 x 49 x 16.5 mm (when not flipped) and packs a 920 mAh battery that theoretically should last up to 8 hours in talk-time mode and up to 360 hours in stand-by mode.

Since March 2008, Sony Ericsson Z555 can be found on most of the markets around the world, being offered for a retail price of about 200 USD (almost 130 Euros).
