This year, Sony Ericsson announced a long series of Android-based mobile phones, and one more of them is now on its way to wireless carrier Vodafone UK.

The company has put the smartphone on its website on a coming soon page, though no specific info on the release date and pricing emerged for the time being.

The mobile phone is based on Google's Android 2.3 Gingerbread operating system, and can be seen at Vodafone here.

A stylish smartphone, the Xperia ray is expected to be an affordable mobile phone, packing features that are available in the company's high-end devices.

“A beautiful and elegant Android powered touchscreen smartphone, with a premium aluminium body,” the wireless carrier explains.

The mobile phone packs a Reality Display with Mobile BRAVIA Engine, similar with the latest handsets from Sony Ericsson, as well as an 8-megapixel photo snapper on the back, for great photo shooting and video recording capabilities.

The Xperia ray is only 9.4mm thick, and packs a 3.3 inch FWVGA scratch-resistant touchscreen display, which hides a fast GHz Qualcomm application processor beneath it.

The specifications list of Xperia ray also includes 512MB of RAM,HSDPA, Wi-Fi, DLNA, 3.5mm headset jack, as well as a built-in GPS receiver.

The phone's 8-megapixel photo snapper sports auto focus, LED flash and 720p video recording capabilities, for a great experience while on the go.

The wireless carrier it expected to launch the new mobile phone in a black / gold version, it seems.

One thing that should be noted here is that Vodafone is not the only wireless carrier in the UK that will make the Xperia ray available on its network. O2 and Three already announced plans to add the smartphone to their lineup.

As stated above, no specific info on the handset's availability at Vodafone UK emerged for the time being, but those interested in the matter can head to the carrier's website now to register for updates.
